Mario Lopez Is Spontaneous, Romantic, Says New Bride Courtney Mazza

There's no lack of spice in the lives of newlyweds Mario and Courtney Lopez.

"The most romantic thing about Mario is his spontaneity," Courtney told PEOPLE on Friday, just under a week after the two tied the knot in Mexico. "He's so spontaneous and it's just fun to be with somebody [like that]."

Mario, 39, explains that he keeps the romance fresh by "taking off for a quick trip or having little quickies here and there," adding, "Kids and jobs and everything else gets in the way, but you can't forget about each other."

As for Courtney, she turns the heat up in the kitchen.

"The most romantic thing about my wife is the meals she cooks when I come home," Mario said, before Courtney added with a laugh, "My grandma did tell me to cook for him in nothing but an apron and stilettos."

When it came to celebrating the couple's Dec. 1 nuptials – which were captured on camera for TLC's Mario and Courtney's Wedding Fiesta, airing on Saturday – being together was the best present they could have received.

"To be honest, we didn't have a wedding registry and didn't ask for any gifts," Mario recently said. "We asked for people to donate to a charity. That was important to us."

Adds the X Factor host, "We had so many people say that was the best wedding ever. Oh my god, it was so much fun."

With their wedding day under their belt, the pair has another celebration nearing.

The couple teamed up with Nivea this year to help kick off the "Kiss of the Year" contest on Facebook, and they will head to Times Square in New York City for New Year's Eve to be with the winning pair, who can be voted on through Dec. 14.

"There were over 1,400 entries," Courtney says. "All of the stories were amazing. It was so hard to narrow it down to just three couples."

Their holiday destination has a special significance.

"We love New York," Mario says. "It's where we met and fell in love."

As for their first kiss, Courtney says with a laugh, "Oh, yeah, I remember it. He pounced me!"

The X Factor: Will Demi Lovato Be Back Next Season?

The X Factor

12/07/2012 at 03:55 PM EST

Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell

She's sassy with Simon Cowell and, after Thursday's elimination of CeCe Frey, she became the first judge this season to lose all her contestants on The X Factor.

So, should freshman judge Demi Lovato be worried about going the way of season 1's female judges, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger?

"It's that time of year [when] you're always going to get asked that question," Cowell told PEOPLE after Thursday's show, "and I'm not going to answer it."

If Demi does leave the show it won't be due to any personal issues Simon may have with the "Give Your Heart a Break" singer. Despite their near-constant bickering on the panel, Simon admits he has a soft spot for her spitfire nature.

"She's fun," Simon, who still has two acts in the competition, said. "She really, really is a tough little thing. I know she plays the 'I've been bullied' [card] – trust me, this one gives as good as she gets."

Still, that doesn't mean Simon agrees with the harsh criticisms Demi has been dishing out to his groups, boy banders Emblem3 and girl group Fifth Harmony.

"It did get a bit bitchy and unpleasant," he said of their recent spats. "I've got to look after my artists. Luckily, they didn't listen to her."

Bo Obama Adorns White House Christmas Card

MAI / Splash News Online

It wouldn't be Christmas at the White House without Bo Obama.

After inspecting this season's holiday decorations – in which he is prominently featured through a life-size replica and Bo-flake ornaments – the first dog also graces the Obama family's Christmas card.

Iowa artist Larassa Kabel's painting depicts a snow-covered Bo running across the White House's North Lawn, an homage to this 2010 snapshot, which caught the 4-year-old playing in the snow during a February blizzard.

"He is my son," Michelle Obama said in March of the Portuguese Water Dog, whose paw print also appears in the interior of the card alongside the First Family's signatures. "He's a very sweet dog."

Teen Arrested in Bank Robbery Had Bragged of Heist on YouTube

12/05/2012 at 03:35 PM EST

There are criminal masterminds, and then there's Hannah Sabata.

The 19-year-old high school dropout allegedly knocked off a bank in Nebraska, then posted a YouTube video bragging about it.

"Kind of a strange deal isn't it?" York County Sherriff Dale Radcliff tells PEOPLE.

In her eight-minute video, Sabata doesn't utter a word. Instead, she scribbles handwritten signs detailing her alleged armed robbery of the Cornerstone Bank in Waco, Neb., on Nov. 28, using "a gun, a pillow case, and a note."

During the course of her video, she also describes how she stole a "shiny new" Pontiac Grand Am, which she used as a getaway car after making off with $6,256 in cash.

"I told my mom today was the best day of my life," she writes in the video, while waving hundred-dollar bills in front of the camera. "She just thinks I met a new boy . . . I'm going for a shopping spree. Bite me."

According to police, Sabata is wearing the same clothes she wore when she allegedly handed bank tellers a slip of paper that read: "You are being robbed! NO ALARMS OR LOCKS OR PHONES or INK BAGS! I have a loaded gun. You have 2 minutes."

Sherriff Radcliff notes that law enforcement officials didn't even know about Sabata's video until after her arrest on Nov. 29.

Photographs of the robber, captured by the bank's security cameras, were quickly distributed throughout the community.

"We had lots of leads, but when her ex-husband notified us and said 'That's my ex-wife,' we got an arrest warrant for her," he said.

Sabata is currently being held in a York County jail on $300,000 bond. According to Radcliff, she faces up to 70 years in prison if convicted of armed robbery and auto theft.

Frankie Muniz Recovering from a 'Mini-Stroke'

12/04/2012 at 03:50 PM EST

Malcolm's in the middle of a health scare.

Former child star Frankie Muniz is recovering from "mini-stroke" that sent him to the hospital last Friday.

Muniz, who turns 27 on Wednesday, tells his Twitter followers that the experience was "not fun at all."

"Have to start taking care of my body!" he writes. "Getting old!"

Muniz provided no more details. But a "mini-stroke" is commonly used to describe a transient ischemic attack, or TIA, when blood temporarily stops reaching the brain, causing stroke-like symptoms for one to 24 hours.

Doctors believe a TIA can be a warning sign for a possible full stroke in the future without preventative measures.

Muniz grew up in front of TV audiences on Malcolm in the Middle from 2000 to 2006. He's moved on to racecar driving and music – he drums for the band Kingsfoil – though recently made a cameo on Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23.

Lindsay Lohan Is 'Out of Control,' Says a Source

12/03/2012 at 03:00 PM EST

Things are not looking good for Liz and Dick star Lindsay Lohan.

Less than 24 hours before the well-documented punching incident at an N.Y.C. nightclub that got her arrested, Lohan was "dancing like crazy" past 2 a.m. at The Darby, at one point "causing a scene" when she thought she lost her phone, says an onlooker. "She even demanded that a girl at a nearby table empty her pockets."

The following night, Lohan appeared drunk, according to reports, before she allegedly punched Tiffany Mitchell at a Manhattan nightclub. She is due in court for the altercation on Jan. 7.

Simply put, Lohan, 26, continues to struggle with alcohol, says a friend. "She will fool people into thinking she's changed, but at some point in the night, she always snaps and it's always the same story," says the pal.

After the nightclub incident, Lohan's assistant Gavin Doyle Tweeted to the actress: "@lindsaylohan after bailing you out last night I HOPE and PRAY you get the help you so desperately need. We are ALL rooting for you. xxx."

Lohan is "out of control," adds a second source. "Her friends don't know what to do. She won't ever change."

Meanwhile, another source close to the actress denies that she has a problem and says that it's the "near constant criticism" that's taking a toll on her. "If everything you did was criticized, you'd lash out too," says the pal. "But she'll be fine, she's tough. She'll probably outlive everyone."

For now, Lohan is due in a Los Angeles courtroom on Dec. 12 for a hearing relating to a June 8 car accident that resulted in three misdemeanor charges, including lying to a police officer. Those charges normally wouldn't threaten jail time for a first time offender, but because Lohan is still on informal probation, those charges, combined with a possible assault, could land her in jail.

The last time the starlet appeared before L.A. Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner, the judge warned Lohan that she could face 245 days in jail if she slipped up again.

Shania Twain Kicks Off Vegas Show

12/02/2012 at 02:30 PM EST

Shania Twain in Las Vegas Dec. 1

Shania Twain still feels like a woman. And now she feels like a Las Vegas headliner.

The Canadian singer kicked off her two-year residency Saturday at Vegas's Caesars Palace with a 90-minute show that features many of her hits and takes the crowd on what she calls a "personal journey."

"The show is very fun for me," Twain, 47, told reporters Saturday. "I was a bit worried that we were staying in the same place. Was I going to lose that edge? But I've never had a show this exciting before."

In fact, her commitment to the show is so intense that she's gone an entire week without seeing the sun (in a town that is famously showered in sunshine) in preparation for her opening night.

It paid off.

Taking the stage for the first time in eight years, Twain appeared giddy and her voice sounded as strong as it did when she was pumping out Grammy-winning songs like "You're Still The One" in the late 90s.

Asked how nervous she was about taking the stage again, Twain said, "I'm actually pretty good."

Her comfort, she said, comes from surrounding herself with things she loves on stage and her husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, who may be her biggest supporter.

"I cannot live without him," she said. "I need that support. I just need what we have. It grounds me every day and reminds me that there are a lot of important things going on in the world."

Added Twain: "He keeps it all in perspective."

Peter Facinelli's friendship with Jaimie Alexander has blossomed into romance. Something Alexander says has her feeling good if not a little scared.

"We've been friends forever and had a lot of mutual friends and we reconnected in the middle of the year," Alexander told PEOPLE Thursday night at the Tommy Hilfiger and GQ "Men of New York" event at Hilfiger's 5th Avenue flagship in New York. "It was one of those things where I'd been single for a very long time and he was going through a lot. We sort of bonded."

Facinelli, who split with Jennie Garth in March, and Alexander met on the set of Loosies, which Facinelli co-wrote, and went on to work together on Nurse Jackie.

"It's very new to me and it's scary," Alexander said of their relationship. "But it's also something we don't want to give up on because I know how it makes me feel in my heart, … It makes me feel really good. He's a good guy with a great family and I couldn't be any luckier."

Alexander can even count on her beau for fashion advice.

"Peter put this coat with this dress!" she said of her Catherine Malandrino coat and Naeem Khan gold frock. As for Facinelli's own style, Alexander said "he picks out his own clothes, and I think, of course that he looks handsome in everything."

Hilfiger donated 20-percent of the evening's sales to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City for Hurricane Relief.

Diem Brown Shares How Her Chemo-Brain Sends Her to Dumb-Dumbville

In her PEOPLE.com blog, Diem Brown, the Real World/Road Rules Challenge contestant recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer for the second time, opens up about her desire for a child and the ups and downs of cancer and fertility procedures.

I have always been a list girl: Things I need to accomplish by a certain age; places I want to visit within five years; must-haves for my fall wardrobe. I actually have lists of my lists!

I have always believed that by writing your hopes, dreams and your daily errands down, the lists become achievable. I guess it's that whole The Secret thang Oprah talked about, but basically for me, lists equal getting things done and moving forward.

At this moment in my life, I HAVE to make lists just to keep my head on straight! Any patient will tell you: Just because you're ill, the world doesn't slow down. If anything your world becomes more cluttered and overwhelming.

Admittedly I have slacked on certain areas in my life, like getting back to people in a timely manor, daily errands, bills – even my work has taken a hit. But making a list helps me map out how to get back on track.

I mentioned feeling overwhelmed and having to make a list to keep your head on straight, well this is why …

You have heard of "pregnancy brain"? Well, I imagine "chemo brain" works the same way. I feel like my head is so clouded that seemingly simple tasks take SO much effort to accomplish.

Returning an item to a store but leaving your receipt at home. Frantically searching for your keys only to find them right in front of your face . Walking out the front door, forgetting the keys you just found and locking yourself out.

Oh, and my favorite: missing your flight home for Thanksgiving because you told the cab diver the wrong airport (JFK not LGA) so you book a last-minute train home to D.C. Then, when your train arrives at your destination, you leave your purse on the train!

Yep that pretty much sums up my Thanksgiving travel day from hell. I had chemo on the Monday before Thanksgiving so traveling on Wednesday felt like my world was crashing over me. The train from N.Y.C. to Washington D.C. was completely FULL, yet I looked so green in the face no one sat next to me. I had to laugh a lil inside because I don't think I would have sat next to me either ... I looked like a ticking time bomb!

When the train arrived in D.C. I gathered my items and headed outside, thankful to see a street vender selling watermelon (my go-to post chemo food). I reached for my wallet and BOOM! You know that moment when you realized you've misplaced something? Your mind instantly paints the picture of exactly where the item is.

Mentally retracing my steps leaving the train, I remembered grabbing my jacket, getting my suitcase down from over head, packing up my Tina Fey Bossy Pants book and errr ... the seat back pocket! DAMN! How did I forget to check the seat back pocket?!

A vivid image of my sad lonely purse on an empty train makes my mind race of what's inside my purse. My ID, my credit cards, my apartment keys, checks I haven't cashed and MY MEDS.

Damn damn damn … now you start making a NEW list while realizing how much money and time your absent mind will cost you. Okay, I have to cancel my credit cards, see if I can remember who the checks in my wallet were from and ask them to stop payment, get my sister's apartment key to make a copy, try to find a doctor that's working on Thanksgiving to write me a new prescription, oh, and my ID! I also have to make a DMV appointment. Great, just great.

The floodgates have opened and tears start trailing down your face. Stressed out, overwhelmed and soooo annoyed that your mind isn't working as it should. This, my friends, is an example of chemo brain!

I called my sister crying, asking her to pick me up as I had no cash or credit cards for a cab home to my dad's house in Virginia. I was being overly emotional over a lost purse so my sister tried to talk me down saying each of the items are replaceable and that it was so clear to her my emotions were from my recent chemo treatment.

I have had so many of these "chemo brain" moments they really do start to make you feel crazy! Like there is a tiny mischievous elf inside your head playing hide and seek with things you should remember. No one really talks about "chemo brain" but it is soooo real. Now I have so much compassion for women dealing with pregnancy brain!

My sister keeps telling me to not be so hard on myself, that chemo is powerful and I'm more or less doped up 24/7. I hear my sisters words and realize my only way to fight this mischievous lil "chemo brain"-inducing self is to take a deep breath and continue making my lists!

This Week's List

1. Don't be so hard on yourself for chemo brain, Dopey, and make that N.Y.C. DMV appointment!

Ahhh, much better. If any of you have any chemo brain, pregnancy brain or just plain dodo brain stories I'd love to hear them. I think sharing our crazy moments makes us all feel way better and a heck of a lot less crazy! :)

Check back for updates every Thursday: Diem will be chronicling exclusively for PEOPLE.com her journey through fertility treatments, chemotherapy and her quest to educate others about ovarian health. You can also follow her on Twitter @DiemBrown.

Is Jessica Simpson Pregnant Again?

Buzz

11/28/2012 at 03:00 PM EST

Is 7-month-old Maxwell Drew a big sister-to-be?

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson – who welcomed their daughter in May – are expecting another child, according to reports widely circulating online.

When asked about the latest baby buzz, Simpson's publicist told PEOPLE, "I'm not going to comment on this speculation."

The star and Weight Watchers spokeswoman, 32, (who showed off her 60-pound weight loss this month) called Maxwell's birth "the greatest experience of our lives."

In May, she told PEOPLE, "I don't want to have another baby right away but I do want to have more kids. Having babies back to back has to be so hard."

Having baby No. 2 is all about timing, she added during the interview about becoming a mom.

"I really want to give Maxwell all of the attention and all of the love and time that I possibly can give her," she said. "When I feel like it's the right time to bring another little one into the family, I will. I won't wait too long but I won't do it immediately."

Simpson and former NFL player Johnson, 32, started dating in May 2010 and were engaged six months later.

Tweeted Simpson this month: "I am so grateful for my new lil family! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!"

Kim Zolciak is reportedly calling it quits on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, but the drama is far from over.

In a teaser for the Dec. 2 episode, a pregnant Zolciak argues with her fellow Housewives about going on a vacation with them before declaring, "I'm done with this whole thing." She walks out on them and shoves a camera out of her way in a huff.

Zolciak has said on Twitter that she is leaving Bravo's Real Housewives for a spinoff show. Earlier this year, she starred in her own Bravo spinoff show called Don't Be Tardy for the Wedding. Meanwhile, Bravo has confirmed to PEOPLE that Zolciak is off Real Housewives of Atlanta after the Dec. 2 episode.

Is Zolciak's seemingly-abrupt exist by choice? Housewives costar NeNe Leakes is fueling the (gossip) fire with her assertion that Zolciak was fired from the show, and did not leave by choice. The former friends have taken to Twitter to battle it out.

"It's so funny how this chick wants people 2 think she quit the show! The producers no longer wanted 2 work wit u! Good bye wit the lies," Leakes Tweeted on Nov. 23.

Zolciak, adamant that she has new ventures beyond Real Housewives, responded on the same day, "I definitely was NOT fired from RHOA I can guarantee u that!!!" she Tweeted. And she clarified: "My spinoff last year was a 1 time thing so this spinoff is brand new! Bye hater!!!!"

Zolciak shot back at Leakes with another zinger. "You are so mad u cant stand it & hold your anger in, u are suppose to have all this stuff going on but ur staying tuned into me #iloveit," she Tweeted.

Frederika Goldberger, Better Known as Mamika, Turns Old Age Into a Super Power

11/24/2012 at 03:00 PM EST

Mamika

Courtesy Sacha Goldberger

It's a bird ... it's a plane ... it's super grandma!

When 94-year-old Frederika Goldberger retired in the early 80s, she was bored and unhappy, so her grandson, Sacha Goldberger, began creating incredible photographs of her to lift her spirits and keep her active.

After a few years and plenty of photoshoots, Mamika – Frederika's superhero alter ego – was created.

"I always loved comics and I wanted to show what could happen to superheroes when they are old," Sacha told TODAY.com.

"The pictures gave her something to do again and helped give her more self-confidence again," Sacha said. "It's a love story. Before I made the pictures, I wanted everyone to know her – she’s incredible."

But long before she posed for the camera, Frederika was a hero. Born a baroness into a wealthly Jewish family in Budapest, Hungary, she was forced into hiding during World War II. Later, Frederika and her husband would risk their lives to help hide others from the Nazis – by the end of the war, her efforts had saved 10 people. Frederika later relocated to France where she raised her family.

Mamika – which translates to "my little grandma" in Hungarian – no longer has to worry about post-retirement boredom. This past April Sacha's first book, Mamika: My Mighty Little Grandmother was published and the duo has begun working on a movie together.

"Before, I'd see pictures of older people and they always looked sad," Sacha said. "I wanted to show that you can be old and still have a sense of humor and be fun."

Jennifer Hudson Hits High Notes as Broadway Diva in Smash

11/23/2012 at 03:00 PM EST

The new trailer for season 2 of Smash opens with Katharine McPhee's character, Karen Cartwright, telling Megan Hilty's character, Ivy Lynn, to stay out of her elevator.

And that's not even the biggest diva moment!

That honor would go to show newcomer Jennifer Hudson, who will play Broadway sensation (and two-time Tony winner) Veronica Moore. There will be no shortage of powerhouse vocals from Hudson, who belts out more than a few high notes in the trailer. And looks gorgeous doing it.

"Someone's always waiting to take you down, honey," Moore tells Cartwright in one scene. "But if the work's good, they won't be able to."

We'll see how good the work is when the second season debuts Feb. 5 on NBC. But until then the super-sized trailer has plenty of drama, including new love interests, backstabbing, scandal, twists, big, big, big musical numbers.

National Dog Show Crowns Wire Fox Terrier Best in Show - Again

11/22/2012 at 03:00 PM EST

It was a cute case of déjà vu at this year's National Dog Show, which gave top prize to a wire fox terrier again.

GCH Afterall Painting the Sky (a.k.a. Sky) was named the 2012 Best in Show winner on Thursday's Thanksgiving day broadcast. It's the first time that the same breed has consecutively won the top spot at a major competition since an English springer spaniel won Westminster in 1971 and 1972. (Think Eira, last year's wire fox terrier winner, wants her paw-tograph?)

After quickly becoming the top dog of the terrier group when the show was taped Saturday, Sky bested an affenpinscher, an American foxhound, a Great Dane, a Tibetan Spaniel, a bearded collie and a Field Spaniel to take home highest honors at the show, which featured more than 1,500 canine participants.

"Sky is a very beautiful wire fox terrier," handler Gabriel Rangel, who's now won the dog show three of the last four years, said post-victory. "She is a natural show dog with a short, well-balanced body. She has a beautiful head and her face is unbelievable."

Of course, Best in Show judge Vicki Abbott agreed, saying, "She has a keen expression and that dense, wiry coat. The handler let her show herself, and she performed."

Too busy with Turkey Day to watch the fur fly? The show will re-air Friday at 8 p.m. (all time zones) on NBC.

President Obama Pardons Two Virginia Turkeys

11/21/2012 at 03:10 PM EST

President Barack Obama with daughters Sasha and Malia Obama

Olivier Douliery/Abaca

Two young turkeys are breathing a sigh of relief right about now, thanks to President Barack Obama, who spared their lives in a gesture of executive poultry power.

As First Daughters Malia and Sasha looked on this afternoon, the President spared the 4-month-old male birds from becoming Thanksgiving dinner in a White House ceremony known as the turkey pardon.

The lucky birds, named Cobbler and Gobbler, were both born on July 13 and raised on a Rockingham Country, Va., farm. In a nod to democracy or the public appetite for reality-TV competitions, the social-savvy White House took to Facebook and asked the public to vote on which bird would be named the official 2012 National Thanksgiving Turkey.

Cobbler, the lighter of the two at 40 lbs., keeps his feathers fanned out and has a strut when he walks. Forty-three-lb. Gobbler, meanwhile, keeps his feathers down and has a "patient but proud" walk.

The vote count was neck and turkey neck, but Cobbler was the victor after earning 2,789 likes to Gobbler's 2,554. With Gobbler the stand-in waiting in the wings, white-feathered Cobbler took center stage at the event.

Before pardoning the turkeys, Obama encouraged his daughters to pet Cobbler. Sasha seemed willing to interact with the bird, but Malia looked horrified and refused, causing her dad – and the press in attendance – to laugh out loud.

Happy Thanksgiving!
